BBC Culture Show

Woodchester Mansion will feature on BBC2′s Culture Show next Friday 14th October at 7.00pm, featured as national finalists in English Heritage’s Conservation Angels Awards.

Pictured is City of Bath College masonry student Jimmy Carins, being interviewed by producer Gráinne Lyons.   Jimmy is a second year Diploma student in Stonemasonry. “I did a degree in FIne Art but want a career in crafts.  But getting out of the college workshop and being allowed to work on a fabulous building like Woodchester Mansion has finally shown me what I want to do with my working life.  It’s been a defining experience for me,” says Jimmy.

City of Bath College  is a major training partner of Woodchester Mansion Trust. College Principal Matt Atkinson is a big fan of the Trust’s ‘Living Classroom’ programme;

“Students who might struggle in the college workshop come out of themselves when given the chance to work on a spectacular heritage building like Woodchester Mansion.  We are developing joint plans for training across a spectrum of skills, in partnership with the National Heritage Training Academy South West and Woodchester Mansion Trust.  This is an exciting new direction for education and training that will be another aspect of what the our ‘heritage’ contributes to contemporary society.”
