Open Days

The Mansion is open to the public every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and on Bank Holidays during our Open Day season from the start of April (or Good Friday if Easter falls in March) to the end of October.
We find that our visitors spend about 60 to 90 minutes touring the house. The last admission is at 4pm to allow everyone time to go around. Our Open Days are almost entirely run by a hardworking group of dedicated volunteers, and we do close promptly at 5pm to allow them to get home to enjoy their evening.

If volunteers are available, we run a mini-bus service from the NT Buckholt Car Park at Woodchester Park to the Mansion for our visitors, and have guided tours at 11:45am and 2:30pm.
Visitors please note: We are in a rural location and there is no mobile phone reception at the Mansion. Please read about how to find us if you’re not local to the area.
Car parking is 3/4 mile from the house. There is a short inclined footpath, or alternatively a flight of rustic steps (neither made-up) from the car park to our minibus stop.
The track down to the Mansion is a lovely walk, but is not made-up.
If you have any mobility problems, please also note that floors in the Mansion are uneven in places.
Are you a disabled visitor? We want you to get the most out of your visit. Please call 01453 861 541 several days in advance so we can make arrangements for you and your companions to reach the Mansion easily.
If you wish to book tickets in advance, please click below. We also have availability at the door – just roll up any Friday, Saturday or Sunday April to October.
We are sorry, but DOGS are NOT allowed on any tours of the historic Grade I listed Mansion (certified assistance dogs excepted).
Well behaved dogs on leads are admitted to café room 1 in the Mansion. We regret that if your dog misbehaves you will be asked to take it outside.
How to find us
Woodchester Mansion is hidden in a quiet sheltered valley about 5miles south of Stroud. The seclusion has contributed to the survival of the Mansion, but makes it hard for some visitors to find. Please read all the instructions if you are not familiar with the area!
The Mansion is sited in Woodchester Park, near the village of Nympsfield. The Park is owned by the National Trust (but the Mansion is NOT a National Trust property). However, visitors are asked to park in the NT Buckholt car park at Woodchester Park (fee £3). The entrance to this is on a minor road that runs from the B4066 (Stroud to Dursley road) to Nympsfield. The turning to Nympsfield is close to the Coaley Peak viewing point. The entrance to the NT car park is on the left, about 250 yards from the junction with the B4066. Do NOT park off Tinkley Lane at the Tinkley Gate entrance to Woodchester Park – our minibus does not go there and it’s a longer walk to the Mansion and a steep climb back.
We respectfully ask our visitors to ensure that they park in the Buckholt car park (or the overflow car park if open) and not along the sides of the lane leading to the village of Nympsfield. Our neighbours, the local residents, have expressed concerns about the danger of congestion in the narrow road, particularly when there are events at the Mansion. You may be able to find additional parking at Coaley Peak at busy times.
Please follow this link for directions from the A46, M4 and M5.
Please DO NOT use the Mansion postcode in your SatNav. If you do this unfortunately many systems will take you from the A46 to the E end of Woodchester Park in the village of South Woodchester. There is no access to the Park or the Mansion from here, the road is narrow, it is hard to turn and the extra cars inconvenience local residents.
It is much better to use ‘Woodchester Park’ or ‘Woodchester Mansion’ if these are options on your SatNav. You can also input the villages of Selsley or Uley, which are on the B4066 which goes past the turning to Nympsfield, where you will find the entrance to the NT Buckholt car park.
The grid reference for the Buckholt car park entrance is SO 797 011 and it is at Latitude 51.7088N Longitude 2.2953W.

The NT Buckholt Car Park fee is £3 (if you’re not a member). Please bring £3 in CASH to pay for your parking, as payment by card is not possible due to the lack of a mobile phone signal in the car park.
Walkers
The Cotswold Way passes the western end of Woodchester Park at Coaley Peak. About 100yd towards Stroud from the entrance to the Coaley Peak car park, along the B4066, you will find a turning to Nympsfield, with a triangle of grass and 2 big trees. Opposite this, set back from the road, you will see the stone gateposts to the Park. Take the stile by the black gate and walk the mile down the track to the Mansion.

Please note: There is no mobile phone signal or public wifi at the Mansion.
