WORKSHOPS MAKE GREAT PRESENTS
You can reserve a space at a workshop as a gift for family & friends. It’s a great idea for birthday presents – and Christmas will be here soon! The recipient has the chance to learn a new skill while spending the day at the historic Woodchester Mansion. Afterwards they can display their work at home and tell the story of how it was crafted – much better than buying a gift from the shops. The experience also makes a good present for people who’re hard to buy for. In the last few years we’ve had quite a few participants who’ve really appreciated their present of a stone carving day at the Mansion.
Our tutor Paul is an experienced craft mason who not only has the skill of working in stone but is also a longstanding teacher of stone masonry, especially to beginners. You will receive expert advice from him on handling tools and working the stone to achieve beautiful results. All materials and tools and PPE are provided and participants will return home with their own hand-made masterpiece.

Recently some of our volunteers – all complete novices at stone carving – had an enjoyable day working with Paul. We all found it interesting and we’ve developed a new respect for the skills of the craftsmen who worked on the Mansion. Our masterpieces are shown below. You can see that some of us are more talented in this field than others, though we all had a great time.
